TWO BRONZE SEALS
EDO PERIOD, 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY
The first in three parts fitting inside each other, modelled as a sage seated in a pavilion beneath a rocky outcrop from which grow pines, with some remnants of gilt; all three matrices cut with characters, one inscribed Kihan Seshin (a retainer at the Kishu domain) and Kuki Shi In (seal of Kuki, a noble name); the other seal shaped as a double gourd raised on a square plinth, with scrolling tendrils and smaller fruits growing from the stalk, the matrix left uncut; 4.7cm and 4.3cm respectively.
