Description

A JAPANESE LACQUER MIRROR STAND AND TWO BRONZE MIRRORS

MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

The stand decorated with scrolling tendrils in gold takamaki-e lacquer on the black ground, together with a mirror box and cover embellished with a large mon shaped as paulownia leaves amongst peonies and further scrolling tendrils, with two bronze mirrors, one with a five-petal flower mon and the other with cranes and minogame underneath pine, prunus and bamboo, both mirrors with a line of calligraphy, 54.5cm max. (5)

Provenance: from an English private collection, West Yorkshire, formed in the 1970s and 1980s.
