A JAPANESE LACQUER FUBAKO
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
The document box and cover of typical rectangular shape, the top decorated with three mon in gold hiramaki-e on the chocolate-brown ground, the sides with silver hooks attached to a flower-shaped fitting, the rims in gold lacquer, the base with a paper collection label inscribed Armoiries de la famille Kara-hashi, 22.8cm x 3.7cm x 8.2cm. (2)
These mon were used by the Maeda clan, the Daimyo lords of the Kaga Domain in the northwest part of Honshu.
