A HIMALAYAN BRONZE FIGURE OF AN EIGHTEEN-ARMED BODHISATTVA ON A TALL STAND

19TH CENTURY

Formed from many sections, the crowned figure cast holding many precious objects in his hands, with mythical beasts at his feet, the deity framed by a flaming aureole and a larger archway decorated with stylised leaves and a removable floral spray, all raised on a tall column terminating in a flared foot, with pendants suspending from the upper register, the stand decorated with lappets and foliate motifs, approx 102cm high and 14kg overall. Provenance: from the collection of Lieutenant Colonel W D Francis OBE, who served in Central Asia, including in the Kurram Militia, during the early 20th century. He was awarded an OBE in 1946.
