A PAIR OF CHINESE PAINTED POTTERY FIGURES OF MUSICIANS AND A POTTERY MODEL OF A HORSE
TANG DYNASTY AND EARLIER
Each figure depicted as a seated lady playing a musical instrument, one holds a set of pipes whilst the other blows a trumpet, each together with a square stand, the stout horse modelled standing four-square upon a rectangular base, its caparison decorated in relief with many birds, 24cm max. (5)
Provenance: from a private collection, UK and USA, purchased from Sotheby & Co, London, on 13th May 1969, lots 51 and 58. The original lot labels and a copy of the invoice are available. The pair of figures formerly in the collection of W H Adgey-Edgar.
