Description
A rare Lambeth Delftware Royal portrait dish, painted in blue with George III in profile wearing a sash and The Order of the Garter between the initials 'GR' below 'III'. A faint rim crack and small rim chips. c.1761, 22cm.
Cf. J C Austin, British Delft at Williamsburg, p.140, no.190. It is likely that the portrait by Jeremiah Meyer is the likely source. The existence of a companion plate depicting Queen Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz suggests these plates were made at the time of their marriage in 1761.
