An Edwardian novelty silver military table cigar lighter, the 4th (Hallamshire) Battalion, The York and Lancaster Regiment,
by The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company, London 1907,
modelled as a grenade, inscribed 'To the Officers, 4th (Hallamshire) York and Lancaster Regt. From Cap W. A. Armitage, 3rd York and Lancaster Regt. 1912', height 13cm.
Provenance: a Private Collection of Regimental Silver.
Raised in 1859 as the Hallamshire Rifle Volunteer Corps. Designated in 1909 as the 4th (Hallmashire) Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment.
