Description

A Victorian silver regimental cream jug, Leeds Castle Corps, Kent Rifle Volunteers,

by Henry Holland, London 1875,

rectangular form, canted corners, scroll handle, engraved decoration and inscribed 'Lieut. J.S. Roper, Leeds Castle KRV 1877', height 8.7cm, approx. weight 4.5oz.

Provenance: a Private Collection of Regimental Silver.

Various corps of the Kent Rifle Volunteers were raised in 1859. A number of regroupings took place and by 1868 there were five Administrative Battalions each covering a different area. The 31st Corps were designated Leeds Castle in 1877. There were three officers including Lieut. Roper.
