Description
An 18th century silver bodkin / sealing wax case,
unmarked circa 1730,
tapering faceted rectangular form, engraved with an embracing couple, an armorial shield, a crest, hearts and foliate scroll decoration, inscribed and 'J.Ian 1730', and 'Marriage y happiest Bond of Love might be' and 'If hands were only joined where hearts agree', hinged cover, the base engraved with a ship, length 8.3cm, approx. weight 0.7oz.
The crest is that of Major.
