A JAPANESE TANEGASHIMA (MATCHLOCK CARBINE)
EDO PERIOD, 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY
With an iron octagonal-section barrel inlaid with a writhing dragon in gilt, the wood stock decorated with scrolling tendrils and circular mon in gold hiramaki-e on the black roiro lacquer ground, with many metal elements shaped as prunus and chrysanthemum flowerheads, 130cm.
