A JAPANESE ARITA MODEL OF A LEAPING CARP
EDO PERIOD, 17TH CENTURY
The large fish with its body contorted and its mouth open, the moulded scales rendered in washes of cobalt blue, the mouth and eyes accentuated with red paint, raised on a European gilt ormolu base decorated with scrolls and leaves, 13.5cm.
Provenance: an English private collection, Nottinghamshire.
