FOUR JAPANESE WOOD NETSUKE OF FIGURES

MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

The first in dark wood, possibly ebony, carved as Gama Sennin laughing whilst standing with his right foot on his large pet toad, the eyes of the amphibian inlaid in horn, a two-character signature for Ryuzan underneath; another a seated man using a nose tickler to sneeze, signed Hokei in a rectangular reserve to the base; the third an elderly couple tying down a small wolf before them, unsigned; the last a man carrying a large sack on his back with the faces of two distraught oni poking from holes, signed Minko, 4.6cm max.
