AN EARLY GEORGE III MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE CHEST ON CHEST
ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS BRADSHAW, C.1760-70
the detachable fretwork swan neck cornice above Greek key and pendant mouldings, with two short and three long drawers, flanked by fluted canted angles, the base with three drawers, the secretaire fitted with pigeonholes and drawers and with secret pilaster compartments flanking a central cupboard

Catalogue Note
Thomas Bradshaw was an upholder and cabinet-maker based at 10 St. Paul's Church Yard and he subscribed to Chippendale's Director (1754) and was declared bankrupt in 1772. A bureau bookcase with a similar cornice to the present lot is illustrated in Christopher Gilbert, 'Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840', p.119. pl.150.
