Description

A Victorian Regimental electroplated wine cooler, 9th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry.

By Elkington, Mason and Co., 1847,

lobed tapering circular form, trailing grape-vine decoration, engraved with the badge, and with a later presentation inscription, 'Presented to Lt. Col. B Hadler, O.B.E, Late Commandant by the Officers 4/4 Bombay Grenadiers on the Disbandment of the battalion, 1929', on a raised circular foot with vine leaf decoration, height 29cm.

In1824 the Regiment was re-designated the 2nd Battalion 1st Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry. It is likely that the wine cooler was acquired by The Regimental Officers' Mess in 1848. The Regiment were at the siege of Mooltan in January 1849.

The Regiment were involved in the 2nd Afghan war, and in World War I they served in Mesopotamia and India. The regiment was disbanded in 1930.
