Description

A Victorian Regimental electroplated meat dish and cover, The 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards,
by Elkington and Co. 1852,
oval form, shell and scroll border, engraved with the Regimental badge, the domed cover with a trailing vine handle and engraved with the badge, length of dish 45cm. (2)
The Regiment served in the Peninsular War, and took part in the Charge of the Heavy Brigade at Balaclava in 1854. They fought at the battle of Tel el Kebir in 1882. Deployed to India in 1894, and served in World War I. In 1922 they amalgamated with the 7th Dragoon Guards to form the 4th/7th Dragoon Guards.
