Description

A pair of Victorian Regimental silver Fiddle pattern oyster forks, The Leitrim Rifles,

by John Smyth, Dublin 1852,

with four tines and a cutting edge, the terminals engraved with the Regimental badge, approx. weight 2oz.

Raised in 1793 at Carrick-on-Shannon as the Leitrim Militia. In 1855 re-designated the Leitrim Rifles. In 1881 the Regiment became the 8th Battalion The Rifle Brigade. In 1889 The Regiment was disbanded.
