Description

A CHINESE LAPIS LAZULI BOULDER CARVING

QING DYNASTY

One side carved in relief with two scholars and an attendant crossing a bridge, framed by wutong trees, pine trees and rocky mountains, the summit inscribed with a poem of six lines, the characters gilded, the reverse decorated with a further mountainous landscape, together with a wood stand, 23.5cm.

The Qianlong Emperor is believed to have written the poem in the yuhai year (1755), describing the painting of lin jing wei yin tu by Ming dynasty painter Wen Zhengming.
