A LARGE CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE VASE AND COVER
LATE QING DYNASTY/REPUBLIC PERIOD
Of flattened baluster form, carved to each side with a pair of stylised phoenix beneath bands of mythical beasts, the neck and cover flanked by two openwork archaistic dragons, their tails with loops suspending linked chains which connect to the vase's animal mask handles, with a paper label reading '3' to the interior of the cover, all raised on a flared foot, 25cm.
Provenance: from a European private collection acquired prior to 1960 and thence by descent.
Cf. The Woolf Collection of Chinese Jade, p.94, no.13 for another large pale celadon jade vase and cover with two chain handles.
