A CHINESE MOTTLED GREY AND BLACK JADE BOWL

QING DYNASTY

With curved sides gently thinning towards the rim, the recessed base with a gilt four character mark which reads, Xing You Heng Tang, with a wood stand, 13.5cm. (2)

Provenance: an English private collection, Bristol.

The hall Xing You Heng Tang is known to have been the residence of the Manchu official Zhai Quan, who was one of the great grandsons of the Qianlong Emperor. Zhai Quan was a famous collector of works of art during the Daoguang and early Xianfeng periods before his death in 1854.
