A CHINESE SILK BROCADE BUDDHIST PRIEST'S ROBE, KESA

18TH CENTURY

Sewn from sections of dark blue silk, brocaded with scaly four-clawed dragons amidst swirling clouds and auspicious objects, divided by six vertical borders, the interior lined with dark blue silk, 180cm x 103cm.

Provenance: formerly the collection of Ricardo Rivera Schreiber (1892-1969), Peruvian Ambassador to the United Kingdom (1954-63), to Italy (1944-46), to Spain (1943-44) and Minister Plenipotentiary to China and Japan (1936-41), and thence by descent.
