ROARING TIGER

A Chinese painting, ink and colour on paper, inscribed hu xiao tu, Yanning xi mo, signed Yanning with three artist's seals, framed and glazed, with an authenticity letter from the Syllavethy Gallery in Aberdeen where this painting was painted in 1986, 59cm x 39cm.

Provenance: formally from a British private collection, purchased from Susan J and Michael Gassaway of the Syllavethy Gallery, the painting was painted in this gallery during the artist's first visit to the UK in 1986.

Chen Yanning is one of the leading artists among Chinese realistic painters, he painted many celebrities and politicians, including a portrait of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh in 1999. One of his portraits of the Queen was used by the Royal Mail on a Royal Jubilee stamp.
