Description

A SET OF EIGHT JAPANESE POLYCHROME ENAMEL DISHES
EDO PERIOD, 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY
All with a gilt rim and decorated with the same design rendered in underglaze blue and thick coloured enamels, each painted to the well with two Chinese Immortals in a mountainous landscape, one holding a double-gourd whilst the other stands behind him, possibly a reference to a Tang Dynasty story involving two of the Eight Immortals, Zhang Guolao and Li Tieguai, the cavetto and rim with a border of clouds and Buddhist beribboned scrolls, all approx. 15.1cm.
