MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

Richly decorated with numerous panels enclosing figures, birds and flowers, one side with Momotaro riding on a white horse and accompanied by his armour-clad dog, monkey, pheasant and rabbit brothers-in-arms, two oni from Onigashima (Demon Island) warily watching them in the distance; the reverse painted with another horse rider and an attendant fleeing from other warriors; all rendered in polychrome enamels and embellished with a profusion of details in gilt, the base with the Shimazu mon, the Yasuda trademark, and a mark for Nihon and possibly Unzan, 35cm.
