Four Japanese scroll paintings; the first an ink painting of a peony by Koutei and sealed Chikuden, inscribed 'a single peony is enough'; another a branch of persimmon by Nanrei with a poem by Shimizu Hamaomi (1776-1824); the third depicting a monkey on a rock by Donshu, and the last with two pumpkins and lychees, unsigned; each with a wood box, 104.5cm x 33.5cm max. (8)
Provenance: formerly the Paula and David Newman collection, sold on behalf of the executors. The peony and persimmon scrolls purchased in London in the early 1990s and the pumpkins in 1974.
