Five medals to Major Owen Christopher George, Royal Flying Corps and R.E.M.E.: British War Medal 1914-20 and Victory Medal (2. LIEUT. O.C. GEORGE. R.F.C.), 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45, unnamed as issued, later mounted for wearing, very fine or nearly so [5]; together with this officer's flying log book. and a small quantity of other associated paperwork and photographs.
Born at Herne Hill 09/07/1897. Enlisted 14/09/1915 and served in the 2nd/9th Battalion London Regiment (Queen Victoria's Rifles), before being discharged 15/02/1916 and re-enlisting in the Royal Engineers at Chatham. Assigned to a Chemist Company (Poison Gas). Discharged to a Commission 16/03/1917 and trained with 28 Squadron RFC, before being taken on the strength of 43 Squadron in France 20/08/1917. Much operational flying followed, until he was shot down 27/10/1917. Dangerously ill with a severe gunshot wound to his upper left leg, he was treated in No 20 General Hosital at Camiers, where a tracer bullet was removed from his wound. Recovered too late for further service in the First World War, but served in the Second with the R.E.M.E.
