The Great War trio to High Wood fatal casualty 2nd Lieutenant Horace Cowderoy, 18th and 20th Battalions the London Regiment: 1914-15 Star (2477 PTE H. COWDEROY. 18-LOND. R), British War Medal and Victory Medal (2. LIEUT. H. COWDEROY.), extremely fine or nearly so; together with the corresponding Memorial Plaque (HORACE COWDEROY). [4]

Born at Wandsworth 26/05/1890. Attested for the 18th Battalion London Regiment (London Irish Rifles) 02/09/1914. Disembarked in France 09/03/1915, and served with the 1st/18th Battalion until suffering gunshot wounds in the back and thigh 10/06/1915 (alternatively - the War Diary records two men wounded 09/06). Returned to England and upon recovery was attached to the 3rd/18th Battalion, before being commissioned into the 3rd/20th Battalion (The Queen's Own) 01/11/1915. Made a will 24/05/1916, and by September was back in France serving with the 1st/20th Battalion. Killed in Action in the attack on High Wood during the Battle of Flers-Courcelette 15/09/1916.
