AN EMBOSSED STEEL AND GILDED PARADE SHIELD

IN RENAISSANCE STYLE, 19TH CENTURY

of convex circular form, the centre with a depiction of Hercules killing Lichas after the sculpture by Antonio Canova (c.1795), the surrounding field delineated by concentric scaled bands and displaying classical busts in rondels separated by mythical creatures, the outer border with leaf masks and foliate sprays, with a laurel wreath rim, the reverse with handgrip and two fixed rings
