A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'FIGURAL' OVOID JAR
TRANSITIONAL C.1640
Painted with a dignitary and his attendants in a fenced garden, with willow and plantain trees amidst rockwork, all below a band of stylised leaf lappets, 18.8cm.
The subject is a ceremony called the jia guan jin jue, which is to commemorate an official's promotion to the rank of nobility.
