A CHINESE POWDER BLUE-GROUND AND GILT-DECORATED VASE, HU

LATE QING DYNASTY

The heavily potted ovoid body painted with a monkey climbing up a fruiting peach tree above pines, shrubs and bamboo, the reverse with a spotted deer and a pair of cranes in a rocky landscape, flanked by a pair of applied mythical beast handles to the shoulder, the base with a Qianlong mark, 34.4cm.

Provenance: from the collection of Henry Myles-Tarlton (d.1946), Chief Engineer for Bird & Co Mining in India between 1912 and 1932.
