An English 34 bore percussion pistol, octagonal twist barrel 4 in., London Company view and proof marks, acanthus engraved back action lock, captive steel ram rod, walnut stock with engraved steel furniture and chequered grip, cartouche with crest and motto of the Scottish Mercer family: a heron seizing an eel in its mouth, 'THE GRIT POUL'.
