Description
A George II silver-gilt marrow scoop,
maker's mark only, that of Paul de Lamerie, circa 1720,
conventional form, the stem with chased decoration, the reverse of the bowl with an armorial within foliate mantling, length 20.5cm, approx. weight 1.4oz.
The arms are those of John Chardin, of The Inner Temple, London. He was a well-known Eastern traveller, Court Jeweller and sometime Envoy to Holland. He was created a Baronet in 1720, and by 1741 he had purchased Kempton Park in Sunbury Middlesex.
