Description

A Prussian engraved wine glass, c.1740, the faceted bowl engraved with a portrait of a Hohenzollern king, probably Frederick Wilhelm I, on a shield above military motifs, the reverse with an inscription in German referring to the Prussian army of 80,000 men, raised on a faceted stem and cut foot, 17.2cm.

When Frederick Wilhelm II acceded the throne in 1740 from his father, he inherited an army of 80,000 men.
