A FRENCH EMPIRE GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE MANTEL CLOCK
POSSIBLY BY DEVILLAINE, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
the brass eight day movement with an outside countwheel and striking on a bell, the backplate stamped '8 * 1' and '420', on an enamelled dial with black Roman numerals, the case surmounted with books titled 'Phys. Tom 3' and 'Astro Tom 1.' the front with a cockerel flanked by flaming torches, with a bronze figure of Athena resting on the books, the rouge marble base with a frieze of putti emblematic of the Arts, with pendulum
