BY DR. LOUIS THOMAS JEROME AUZOUX (1797-1880), MID-19TH CENTURY
made of papier-mâché, coming apart to reveal the different layers with paper label annotations throughout, inscribed 'Anatomic clastique, by Dr Auzoux' to the mount
20cm high, 16.5cm wide, 27cm deep
Catalogue Note
Dr Auzoux qualified in Paris as a doctor in the early 19th century but instead of pursuing a medical career he set up a workshop making anatomical models. He referred to his models as 'anatomy classique' as they could be disassembled into their constituent parts to reveal the underlying anatomy. Their larger than life-size scale helped students to understand the structure more easily.
