A PAIR OF MAPUCHE TREEN CARVED WOOD STIRRUPS

CHILE, LATE 19TH CENTURY

of anchor shape, carved with Mapuche symbolism and cosmogony, with flowerheads and rondels (2)

24.5cm high, 23.2cm wide


Catalogue Note

These stirrups were probably used for rituals and ceremonies in which horses were adorned with rich and elaborate tack. They are based on Argentinian campana stirrups.
