λ A REGENCY ROSEWOOD AND BRASS MOUNTED LIBRARY TABLE
IN THE MANNER OF GEORGE BULLOCK, EARLY 19TH CENTURY

the top inlaid with brass stringing of elliptical design, above a frieze with a nulled edge, on ebonised and carved giltwood scrolling swan head and feather supports, with ring turned ends and a conforming stretcher applied with gilt brass lappet mounts, with elaborate scroll feet

Provenance

By family repute probably Sir Nelson Rycroft 4th Bart, (1833-1894) who married Juliana Ogilvy and lived at Kempshott, Hampshire and thence by descent to Sir Richard Newton Rycroft, 7th Bart, (1918-1999) of Dummer House, Hampshire.

Catalogue Note

The swan supports seen on this table are reminiscent of a ‘Design for a scrolling swan’ by George Bullock, one of the Wilkinson Tracings held by the Birmingham Museums, accession number 1974M3.201.
