standing, wearing an elaborate helmet, holding a figure of a female angel, a shield to her side, on a circular marble base

Catalogue note
This figure is a copy of the original 12m tall statue that once stood in the Parthenon. Made of ivory, gold and wood, the statue embodied the city’s prosperity. Athena is depicted hold a small figure of Nike (Victory), symbolising the triumph over the Persians.
