Description

Ruser, a sapphire and diamond brooch, America, mid 20th century, designed as abstract drapery, pavé-set with circular-cut diamonds and channel-set with lines of French-cut sapphires, length 6cm, signed Ruser, inscribed Irid.Plat

Ruser was the eponymous firm founded by the American jeweller William Ruser, whose career began at Trabert & Hoeffer Mauboussin in New Jersey. Setting up shop on Rodeo drive in 1947, Ruser found success catering to the Hollywood elite, who particularly coveted his figurative jewels set with freshwater baroque pearls, as well as his more traditional designs, beautifully set with precious stones. He closed his business in 1969, selling the Rodeo Drive location to Van Cleef & Arpels.
