A JAPANESE GOLD LACQUER BOX, COVER, INNER TRAY AND DRAWER
MEIJI ERA, 19TH CENTURY

The tall rectangular body richly decorated with a continuous design of pavilions in a mountainous river landscape, one on tall stilts reminiscent of Kiyomizu-dera; with details rendered in hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and kirigane and with minute coral inlays; the sides and drawer with similar embellishments; the inner tray decorated with fishermen on small boats casting their nets amongst the waves, the reverse with brocade patterns, 14.5cm x 12cm x 21.5cm.
