PLEASE NOTE THIS LOT IS TO BE OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE.
Provenance: from the collection of Phillip Allen (1938-2022).
Exhibited: The Oriental Ceramic Society, The World in Colours, 2006, no.79.
Cf. The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours, Hong Kong, p.216, no.197 for a closely related medallion design. This decoration on bowls is based on Kangxi period prototypes, such as the example in the Qing Court collection. The pattern continued in the subsequent reigns, with known examples from the Qianlong, Jiaqing and Daoguang periods. Cf. Christie's London, 6th November 2018, lot 38, for another Qianlong doucai bowl with this shape and decoration from the collection of the late Soame Jenyns.
