A RARE AND LARGE BRONZE MODEL OF ELEPHANTS BY GENRYUSAI SEIYA
MEIJI ERA, 19TH/20TH CENTURY
The okimono realistically cast as five animals joyously clambering on top of each other, one a small calf; their rough skins realistically rendered and with lustrous trunks; the reverse with a rectangular seal mark reading Dai Nihon Genryusai Seiya zo, 33cm x 40.5cm.
Provenance: a private English collection, acquired c.1900 and thence by descent.
