Robert Devereaux 3rd Earl of Essex (1591-1646), Captain-General and Commander-in-Chief of the Parliamentary army: a small oval silver Military Reward badge, 1642, armoured bust almost full-face, with sash over shoulder, broad lace collar, rev. oval garnished shield of the arms of Essex, integral suspension lugs, 31.8 x 21.5mm, 5.38g (MI 298/117; Platt II, type G, pp. 84-85), very fine or better and rare.
