Description
A large Spode botanical comport, c.1800, painted in pattern 1100 with a specimen of Winged Podded Sophora, the sides with flower stems of Mediterranean Stock and Peacock Iris, within a wide gilt formal acanthus leaf border, titled and marked in purple to the base, 37.3cm.
The flowers for this service were copied from William Curtis's Botanical Magazine of the late 18th century.
