Description

A rare Derby devotional figure of St Francis of Assisi, c.1760, the monk dressed in a brown cowl with his hood up, a rope belt tied at his waist, his left foot resting on a stack of books, holding a skull in his left hand, 16cm.
St Francis is often depicted with the hood of his habit covering his head, holding a skull to represent his devotion and as a reminder of human mortality.
