λ A RARE NORTH ITALIAN BONE AND IVORY INLAID WALNUT CHEST
VENETIAN, LATE 15TH / EARLY 16TH CENTURY
all over decorated 'Alla Certosina' with rondels and bands and panels of flowers, the hinged lid centered with a chequer board revealing a fitted interior with hinged compartments and drawers with wrought iron side carrying handles
28.7cm high, 70cm wide, 48.5cm deep
Provenance
Accompanying the chest is a hand written receipt date 19th May 1896 stating that R. Kenneth Dawson purchased the chest from the estate of the late Mr R. Carter for 31 pounds 2 shillings.
