Georges-Louis Leclerc, comte de Buffon, was a French naturalist who published a number of treatises and books with engravings of birds and animals. Frederic-Theodore Faber painted a porcelain service with similar decoration for King William I of the Netherlands, which was sold as part of the Ann and Gordon Getty Collection in 2022.
