A Martin Brothers stoneware Marred pot the collapsed pot inscribed with the biblical verse 'and the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the Potter' in brown on ochre, circa 1890 incised Martin London & Southall, paper labels 18cm. high Provenance Lawrence's Auctioneers Surrey 18th March 1997 lot 913 Exhibited Worthing Museum & Art Gallery 8th February to 5th April 2003. The Marred pots are believed to have been first introduced in the 1870's when some of the thinly thrown pots actually collapsed in firing.
