with four graduated revolving tiers with faux leather bookspine dividers and a central marbled paper column, on a faceted stem on four splay legs and brass castors, the underside with a handwritten paper label inscribed ' Baron Ceruil', together with a quantity of leather books to fit

Catalogue Note
A design for a 'circular movable bookcase' under the patent of Morgan and Sanders was published in Rudolph Ackermann's, The Repository of Arts in 1810. According to Ackermann, this 'ingenious and elegant contrivance' derived from the form of dumbwaiters, affords some 'valuable conveniences'. A related four-tier revolving bookcase is illustrated in Margaret Jourdain, Regency Furniture 1795-1830, p.83, fig.197.
