Description

A Charles I oak Salisbury folding top or 'credence' table, with a moulded frieze and later central drawer above three arches with applied split pilasters, the turned legs united by replaced peripheral stretchers, the back support with an octagonal post, 32in (81.2cm) h, 38.25in (97cm) w, 18.75in (47.6cm) d. See Victor Chinnery, Oak Furniture, The British Tradition, pp.448-454 in which he discusses Salisbury and District, 1580-1650 and illustrates a similar table (fig 4:77) and a stool (fig 4:62) for similar turned leg, with an attribution to the Beckham family workskop.
