A SET OF FIVE JAPANESE LACQUERED WOOD TRAYS
MEIJI OR LATER, 20TH CENTURY
The keyaki (zelkova) trays of rectangular form with rounded corners, each decorated with a small still life depicted in gold, silver and red lacquer, rendered in a variety of techniques including hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and nashiji; some objects referring to particular celebrations, such as the tachi-bina dolls linked to the festivities of the Hina-matsuri (Girls' Day) in March; each 32.4cm x 33.4cm; contained in a tomobako wood box.
